'Bloody Teeth / Bloody Hands' (tracks 1-10)

The 'Hidden' tracks after Tomorrow Was include our cover of I Got A Right by Iggy & The Stooges. This recording was the second take after Dave and Matt had heard the track for the first time 15mins prior. It also features Ben Bray on the last chorus. There are some tracks recorded through a pair of headphones at The Tavern in Letchworth. I accidentally trod on the headphones but weirdly, if you turn the volume right up, you can still hear the vocals ok through the fuzz. And we'll call the last hidden track Oh Loneliness. I recorded this at home in Stockwell, London using my shitty guitar, a pair of flip-flops, a bunch of keys and very limited talent.

Here's the info from the sleeve:

Produced by Andy Davies & Dan Williams Allstars at Earthworks Studio in Barnet and Andy's Shed in Hitchin.

Dave thanks: Ahead Drumsticks for the tennis elbow.
Tom thanks: Steve, Andy Davies, Sluts Of Trust, Degrassi and my hands.
Matt thanks: Boss ODB-3 for supplying the brown notes, dropped D (the lazy mans tuning), mid-tempo rock riffs, Fosters and everyone who's come to see us and helped in any way over the years.
Dan thanks: Steve & Alison, Andy Davies, Pam & Bernard, Ben Bray, Cat, David's Music (and all who sail in her), most of the bands we've played with, all the people who came to see us play and sorry to all the people who's drink I knocked over. Special thanks to Tom, Dave & Matt for making some beautiful music that I could roll around on the floor to...cheers babes'.

'Pulling Teeth / Shaken Hands' (tracks 11-33. This was the 'bonus disc' that came with the album).

I (Dan - May 2020) have added a bit of info about these tracks in the brackets after the info transcribed from the sleeve:

Tracks 1-3 are Tom and Dave playing in Tom's garage. These were recorded towards the end of 2002. (These were the first tracks we wrote. We didn't have a bass player. I was probably there, shouting along through a crappy, broken bass amp. Obviously I could not be heard over the other two).
Tracks 4 & 5 are some ideas played by Tom at Dan's flat in Stotfold sometime in early 2003. (Most tracks at this stage started life in my flat with Tom playing his ideas to me and him turning my one-finger riffs in to something that sounded good).
Tracks 6-9 were recorded in the Barfly at Fibbers in York during February 2004. (These tracks were taken from a lost 'tour diary' video Dave recorded during our tour with Sluts Of Trust and Degrassi. It's a shame the video is lost because I remember it was quite funny. There is a bit where I knock Matt over onstage. Normally he's the tough one but I must have taken on some special powers while on stage).
Tracks 10 & 11 were recorded with Andy Davies in his shed sometime in early 2005. (Andy asked us to do a couple of tracks with him to make sure we weren't going to piss him off if he ended up asking us to spend some time with him recording an album. We were one of the few local bands he liked...I think? HA! I think Andy picked the songs).
Track 12 is taken from the 'Bloody Teeth / Bloody Hands' recording with Andy Davies in July 2005. (I was so sick of playing Sweat yet it crept on to our second album after being the opener on the first (Whose idea was that anyway? Tom??). There was no way I was going to let Team BC feature on both albums as well).
Tracks 13-21 are the band practising in Baldock, recorded by Tim Shotter in October 2007. (We still practised....sometimes. The band was on it's way out by this point. No new music had been written for ages and there were no new ideas being put forward. I asked Tim to record us practising as I felt we didn't have an album that caught our "live sound". I liked this recording, it was loose and fast. I (half-)joked about getting Tim to record all the new tracks at a practise and us putting that out as the album. I think Tom ran Tim's recording through some distortion filter but you can hear the unedited tracks here: iamanerd.org.uk/dan-williams-allstars/ . I think Tim has the tracks in the correct order and the track order on our album is wrong).
Tracks 22 &23 are the last recordings by the band done in December 2007. (Tom's version on 101 Teeth is incredible. I don't know why he did it but I wish he did more music like this. Putting On The Smiles later became I'll Dig My Own Grave on the mini-CD. Tom recorded the music at his home in Cambridgeshire and I recorded the vocals at my home in London).

=================================

I don't remember much about recording this album but looking at the dates, it's stupid that the recording started in July 2005 and the album wasn't finished until September 2007. I do remember meeting up with Tom in Andy's shed practically every fortnight to polish off bits of the album here and there. Dave and Matt would pop in occasionally to make sure I hadn't binned all the half-time bits in Matt's mid-tempo rockers.

The drum parts were recorded in Earthworks studios. My main job on those visits was making tea and getting Andy cheese and onion rolls from some cafe called De Niro's or Pacino's or something. There are some good charity shops in Barnet though.

By the time we had a finished version of the album in our hands the band was about ready to call it a day. We had a few gigs lined up but no one was really too bothered about putting money in to get the album made. I planned the eventual double CD and DVD package, got the ok from the rest of the band and got on with putting it together. It was 100 copies with hand-sewn sleeves and each copy came with a Polaroid picture. You can find all the footage from the DVD on Youtube.

The album was released in January 2008 and we did a few gigs after it's release with a "final" gig at The Shed in Baldock on 8th March 2008.
